Cllr John Cotton

Passionate about housing and social justice and a proud Brummie, John has served as a Labour and Co-operative Councillor in his home city since 1999.  He has extensive experience in local government, holding Cabinet portfolios covering housing, health, community safety, equalities and social care before taking over as Leader of Birmingham City Council in May 2023.  John has been national Chair of Labour Housing Group since 2019, working with members to champion a progressive housing agenda and ensure that every citizen can access a genuinely affordable and decent home.
