LHG Response: Government Announcement on New Social Housing Exemptions

In our 2023 submission to the National Policy Forum and our 2024 motion to Women’s Conference, we called for an end to ‘local connection’ requirements for domestic abuse victims to access social housing.

LHG therefore warmly welcomes the announcement of 24 September by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Ministry of Defence that all UK Armed Forces Veterans, domestic abuse survivors, and care leavers will be exempt from rules which require a connection to a local area before accessing social housing.
