Cllr Asma Islam is a Labour and Co-operative councillor in Tower Hamlets with a strong record of public service and grassroots activism. She has held senior leadership roles on the council, including Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning, and Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, where she championed transparency and better outcomes for residents.
A passionate advocate for housing justice, Asma’s commitment is rooted in her lived experience growing up in a council home. She has consistently pushed for investment in social housing, improved standards, and greater accountability from housing associations and management companies. She also served on the board of Tower Hamlets Homes, working to improve service delivery and tenant engagement.
Asma’s work focuses on tackling housing inequality, strengthening tenant voices, and ensuring everyone can live in safe, secure, and affordable homes. She currently works for a Member of Parliament, leading on casework, housing, and community engagement bringing her frontline experience directly to national representation.
